Partnership Welcome Message

A socially inclusive society is one in which every individual has an active role to play and is based on fundamental values of equity, equality, social justice, and human rights. The Australian Tertiary Education Network on Disability (ATEND) and the Pathways 13 Committee recognise the important contribution of business, organisations and government in creating a socially inclusive society for people with disability.

The ATEND Pathways Conference is a national conference that brings together professional and academic staff from across Australia to identify and remove barriers for people with disability participating in higher education and training. The ATEND Pathways Conference is a biennial event organised by ATEND, the peak body for disability practitioners in the higher education and training sectors. ATEND’s objectives are to influence policy through lobbying and advocacy, improve and maintain professional standards and provide and promote professional development.

The Pathways 13 conference will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pathways in Australia and we expect to attract a record number of attendees (350 + delegates). The conference will be held in Canberra from 30 November – 2 December 2016 and will showcase a comprehensive program, with distinguished Australian and international speakers.

Exploring the theme ‘Changes, Challenges and Choice’ will enable us to look back over the past 25 years since the first Pathways Conference in Geelong in 1991, and explore Changes in the field of higher education and training for people with disability and look forward to the Challenges and Choices of the future.

The conference will bring together different perspectives and rich diversity of experience and understanding from all that attend. We hope Pathways 13 will allow colleagues from around Australia to come together to share and learn more about current practices in the area of higher education and training for people with disability, to gain inspiration from others and to strengthen networks of friends and colleagues.

We invite you to partner with us for the Pathways 13 Conference and contribute to this important event as well as promote your services to disability practitioners from across Australia. By partnering with the Pathways 13 Conference, your organisation is demonstrating a commitment to the vision of a socially inclusive society by enabling people with disability to participate fully in higher education, training and employment.

Sincerely
